ARE FLEA AND TICK MEDICINES SAFE? MUST READ!

Itchy-itchy, scratchy-scratchy, Ooo I got one on my backy. Beat that big bad bug with the bug spray! Shhhhhhh!

One of the most common questions I am asked as a dog breeder is which flea and tick product I recommend. The answer truly is NONE! While some areas of the country may require the use of chemicles to prevent flea and tick infestations due to the high rate of these icky pests in their region, I just do not like to put any type of chemical on or in my dogs. The side effects can be deadly.

I somewhat relate this to kids getting lice, you don’t pre-treat your kids so they don’t get lice so why would you put a harsh chemical on or in your sweet little puppy just in case they may get a flea or tick? Instead you can try a few different ways to keep your furry friend flea and tick free.

If you like to hike with your dog keep their coats short. Once home, inspect their coat closely for fleas or ticks. Better yet, put them in the tub and give them a nice, warm bath.
